The challenge
National electricity clearing infrastructure with no margin for data error
MAVIR operates Hungary's electricity transmission system and national energy clearing - infrastructure where data accuracy is a legal and operational requirement, not a quality goal. The settlement system processes measurement data from hundreds of sites, applies complex regulatory formulas, and produces outputs that determine financial settlements between market participants. Any error cascades into billing disputes, regulatory exposure, and market instability. The system also had to adapt continuously to EU energy market regulation without disrupting live operations.
The solution
Custom settlement platformtbuilt for regulatory precision and long-term evolution
E-Group has built and maintained elements of MAVIR's settlement infrastructure for over 25 years. The platform processes data from more than 400 measurement sites, applying over 1,500 different formulas per month through a unified import/export system with flexible input data handling. A future-proof master data registry underpins formula configuration, built with secure change control and strict legal compliance. Systems cover settlement for KÁT and METÁR renewable energy schemes, market modelling for grid balancing, 15-second and 1-minute settlement windows for real-time grid management, and continuous adaptation to ENTSO-E regulatory requirements.
The result
Hungary's energy settlement sustained through every regulatory cycle for 25+ years
The MAVIR engagement has run for over 25 years - zero failures across national electricity market infrastructure spanning multiple EU regulatory regimes, the renewable energy transition, and the digitisation of energy trading. As settlement windows shrink from hours to seconds and the grid transitions to renewables, E-Group's systems have adapted without interruption. When the cost of switching is measured in market stability, a proven long-term partner is not a preference - it is a requirement.
