The challenge
A single point of trust for an entire nation — with no room for downtime
Hungary needed a central authentication infrastructure that could serve every citizen and every government service under the force of law. The system had to handle not just citizen logins but retrieving user attribute set, legal entity representation, document authentication, power of attorney, and integration with the civil registry — all meeting the EU's evolving eIDAS regulation. The cost of failure was not measured in lost revenue but in lost access to healthcare records, tax services, and pension systems.
The solution
IDX — the platform that became Hungary's authentication infrastructure
E-Group has been the technology partner for KAÜ — Hungary's Central Authentication Agent — since 2003, working with NISZ as the operating body. Designed and implemented by E-Group, the platform grew through a major regulatory change in 2012 and a full upgrade in 2014 into the complete sovereign identity layer the country runs on today. It covers citizen and legal entity authentication (KAÜ and JKÜ), two-factor authentication, biometric onboarding, e-signature and PKI services, document authentication (AVDH), and Hungary's eIDAS connection (Hun-PEPS).
